Public Act 98-0218

On August 9, 2013, the governor signed House Bill 1444 into Public Act 98-0218, effective immediately. This bill makes the following changes to the IMRF article of the Illinois Pension Code:

  • Allows members to apply for a refund of their Voluntary Additional Contributions before they stop working for their IMRF employer or before they apply for their IMRF pension only to the extent permitted by the Internal Revenue Code.

  • Changes the amortization period of an employer's unfunded liability to align it with the new GASB requirements.

  • No longer requires the Township Supervisor to be the IMRF Authorized Agent for townships.

  • Removes the requirement that the IMRF Board of Trustees meet monthly.

IMRF to conduct website needs survey later this month

You, as well as your members and retirees who have Member Access accounts, will receive a brief online survey at the end of this month. Email messages with a link to the survey will be distributed to more than 60,000 individuals beginning August 23. The survey can be completed in less than 10 minutes.

Input from our members and employers will be invaluable in our effort to develop an updated website which is slated for launch in 2014.

If any of your members or retirees receive an email from IMRF with a link to the survey, we ask that you encourage them to complete the survey as soon as possible.

If you have any questions, please call an IMRF Member Services Representative at 1-800-ASK-IMRF (1-800- 275-4673) or send us a secure message.
